Works great for party boosting Flip 5 if done right!
Initially, I experienced an issue reported by others with two Flip 5s. When trying to pair, there was constant static/disconnect rendering them unusable. JBL responded that only one speaker can be connected to your phone’s Bluetooth and the other connects through the app to the other speaker. I can listen with party boost or stereo modes easily. The one issue is that once I set up which mode I want, I cannot open the app and easily change between the modes. It wants you to reconnect the speakers, essentially start over. However, overall an easy way to party boost/stereo your speakers.
Connecting two Charge 5’s in Party or Stereo mode
After much troubleshooting, here are the procedures for listening in “Party” or “Stereo” mode.
The instructions below assume you have already paired your speakers the first time. This procedure works with iPhone 11 Pro. I assume it will work with iPhone 11 or 12.
1) do not rename your speakers.
2) turn on one of your speakers, then turn on Bluetooth on your iPhone
3) once that speaker connects, turn on your second speaker and wait for it to connect, you should now see both speakers connected in the Bluetooth setting on your iPhone
4) open the JBL Portable app
5) one of your speakers will show up, wait for the figure 8 icon “PartyBoost” to show up below it
6) touch the figure 8 icon “PartyBoost” on the screen, this should take you to a new screen which will show you an image of the first speaker you connected too
7) at the bottom of the screen you will see the words “Nearby Speakers”, there should be a tiny image of the speaker in it. Since my speakers are black, it simply turns black
8) touch the icon under “Nearby Speakers” and this should connect the second speaker
9) now go to the top of the screen and choose “Party” for mono or “Stereo” for stereo
10) open you music app, choose a song, enjoy

I have enjoyed using this devise but lately since my update I keep sling the connection. Could use and update please.
So poorly designed it’s hard to imagine
I recently got a JBL Soundfly Air, and for the sake of comparison I’m an IT professional and also own Sony SAN-NS airplay speakers and their companion app too. In the end, I got it set up, but I just want to lay out a few things here with the hopes that JBL/Harman ever reads these.
1. Why try to replicate the iOS music player functionality by layering your own garbage over it? This app should do stuff not already built into the phone.
2. The pairing setup is a joke, you most hold your iPhone in landscape mode to read it, and it forces you to use a re-formatted browser page within its own app instead of something simpler and quicker built into a real app.
3. I can adjust some make believe setting called «3D music» from the app, though I cannot do something simple like EQ settings.
4. The app/setup webpage have no built in way to query for a firmware update for the device (and the link on the web is dead).
6. Cannot check/adjust settings of the speaker (with the exception of «3D effect») from the app.
Useless garbage for a device that is mediocre at best on its own.
After my Harmon Go+Play decided it doesn’t want to play anymore and due to total lack of support and no repair service available by Harmon, I purchased at the time what was the “Top of the Range” JBL OnBeat Rumble Bluetooth speaker from the iStore here in South Africa.
Expensive product indeed, but in saying that you do get what you pay for, its a brilliant speaker with a rich bass and to this day I have yet to find / hear better. Unfortunately what let’s it down is the lack of after sales support as I have experienced from both my products by HARMAN (a subsidiary of Samsung) and it shows too in their apps which are not even worth wasting any bandwidth downloading.

Perfect
This app is perfect and very smooth but I suggest for you guys to add to both PARTYBOX and Connect app that u add a turn off feature especially when using connect a multi shut off or single speaker
The app is ok but they definitely needs an equalizer and maybe let you customize the lights more to your liking. It should also let you know if your speaker is up to date instead of just telling what version it’s on. the reason I said it need an equalizer is because this speaker can sound muffled at times and that eq that’s on the speaker and the app is only for karaoke and not for anything else so please enable those equalizer for regular music listening too it would help out a lot.
Could be much better
The app works fine for me. Always connects. My main problem is that I don’t feel it’s feature rich enough. If there was more light customization, which I know they could do, I would rate it way higher. The speaker is great. But this needs more lighting features for sure. Like, why can I not just have the light ring just one solid color instead of flashing?
